Participations étrangères dans l’industrie manufacturière marocaine : quels effets sur les performances du secteur (1985-2012) ?

Résumé : Cet article analyse les retombées des participations étrangères sur la productivité totale des facteurs (PTF) de l’industrie manufacturière marocaine. A cette fi, nous avons utilisé la Méthode des Moments Généralisés en Système en panels dynamiques pour un échantillon de 22 branches du secteur manufacturier sur la période 1985-2012. Les principaux résultats des estimations effectuées, montrent que la présence étrangère dans l’industrie manufacturière marocaine agit négativement sur la PTF dudit secteur. Cet effet négatif s’explique, entre autres, par l’effet de la concurrence exercé par les entreprises étrangères sur leurs homologues marocaines. Il est question aussi de la nature des branches investies par les entreprises étrangères qui se concentrent dans les secteurs de moyenne et de haute technologie où les spillovers technologiques nécessitent une capacité d’absorption et d’assimilation élevée des entreprises locales.

Foreign shareholding in the Moroccan manufacturing industries: Impact on the sector performance (1985-2012)?
Abstract: This article analyzes the effects of foreign shareholdings on the total factors productivity (TFP) of the manufacturing industries in Morocco. To this end, we used Generalized Method of Moments, in dynamic panels for a subset of 22 branches of this sector over the period 1985-2012. The main results of the estimations made show there is a negative impact of foreign investment on the manufacturing industry sector TFP in Morocco. This negative impact can be explained by different factors, among which we can cite the effect of competition brought by foreign companies against their Moroccan counterpart. This is also due to the nature of branches where foreign companies invest which is concentrated around mid and high technology sectors. In such sectors, technological spillovers require local companies with a high level of absorption and assimilation capacity.
